The table provides data regarding the number of required rooms, the required clear height and area of individual rooms, the manner of equipping as well as the conditions regarding natural lighting and ventilation.
General information:
In all the teaching premises, it is necessary for the acoustic response to satisfy the sound image aesthetic requirements. In this sense, it is necessary to take into consideration the existence of suspended ceilings at the distance of 15-20 cm from the concrete slab while determining the floor height in the building. Their materialization shall be defined during the following design phases.
The table shows the equipment planned for certain spaces in order to explain the manner of use and the processes taking place there. This description should be used by the participants in the competition to perform a spatial check during work and it is not necessary to draw the disposition of the said equipment in the design.
The room areas are given net and represent the minimum/optimal requirements, minor deviations are permitted, provided that the total increase in the area of the building does not exceed 5%

It is desirable for classrooms for individual teaching to be grouped by departments (for example, classrooms for piano teaching, for string instruments, etc. should be grouped each, etc.) It is desirable for all the classrooms to be in a block, apart from the percussions office, which should be separated - primarily due to noise - but also set up to allow a relatively easy transfer of instruments to the concert halls (if necessary). It is possible that the faculty will have an additional set of large percussion instruments next to the concert hall, but the transfer of all the others will still be constantly required.

А.2.4.1 |
Sound studio with anechoic chamber Jazz and Music Direction Department 1 The studio will be comparatively small and will be primarily be used by the jazz department, but also for teaching in the Music Direction study programme. Therefore, the size of the audio control room (control room) must be larger - around 40 m2 - in order to accommodate another 10 students at most apart from the teacher. The acoustic treatment of the booths and all the rooms in the studio should be such that it corresponds primarily to jazz music. If the number of rooms with special booths for drums, soloists and bassists is preserved (as in the plan), then a grand piano should be placed in the main room, with the space for (maximum) 2-3 additional musicians (with stands in front). If all these special booths are not feasible for any reason, then more musicians should be included in the main room. As for the dimensions of the booths themselves, the approximate are of the booths for the bass and soloist should be 4-5 m2 and both can be square, but the drum booth should be larger, at least about 10 m2, and should not be square (due to the position of the instruments and the microphones around it, in fact the parallelepiped shape is more appropriate). In the case of the elimination of the booths, the first to go would be the soloist one, due to the nature of sound of the bass and the drums (and leaks in the recording), so we would definitely keep a special booth for the bass and the drums. As for the position of special rooms in relation to the control room, what is certainly the most important is communication, so the deployment of positions in the area would certainly be expected. Note: The participants in the competition are given the opportunity to propose a different configuration of the sound studio with an explanation |

Hall height: 6.0 m Hall area 14х20х6 280 m2 Number of halls: 1 Dance room 1 is intended for daily rehearsals of dancers and occasional controlled access of the audience, primarily guests and participants in accompanying programmes / classes. The capacity of the hall should be planned for the simultaneous rehearsal of 70 dancers, with appropriate optimal dimensions of 14x20x6 m. Position the hall in a way that allows direct access from the dressing rooms, through a “clean”” floor. Sound insulation is important in this space, in terms of transmitting sound and vibrations from the hall to other areas of the building and vice versa. It is necessary for the space to have adequate acoustic characteristics, and to provide conditions for positioning and use of the necessary audio and visual equipment. Also, natural ventilation, air conditioning, place for piano, mirrors on one side, wooden vibrating floor and ballet linoleum are necessary. |

Activities within this space include storage of clothes and personal belongings, changing clothes for the needs of daily activities (rehearsals, fitness exercises ...), maintaining hygiene and changing clothes after activities. The dressing rooms should be planned as male and female dressing rooms with the capacity for 35 people each, with changing and storage areas and sanitary blocks with toilets and showers. The changing and storage areas should be designed according to the system of sports dressing rooms, so that they enable the housing and use of wardrobes for storing clothes and personal belongings with compartments and locks (lockers) and changing benches, in accordance with the number of users. The dressing rooms at the same time serve the space for performers and physical preparation and relaxation, where the connection to the block of spaces for performing is the primary connection.

|
А.4.4 |
Premises for resting, relaxation and the gym |
|
А.4.4 |
Approx. area around 150 m2 Within this segment, an access lobby should be designed, which enables access to all planned facilities: a space with a sauna for the simultaneous use by 4-6 people, a massage space and a sanitary block. The space for recovery and relaxation should be good and, if possible, should not cross with other communications and should be connected with the dressing rooms. Natural ventilation is necessary |
|
Notes: Halls for dancing While defining the height of these rooms, it is necessary to take into account that the suspended ceiling in them will be at a distance of approximately 50 cm from the concrete slab (acoustic treatment and placement of ventilation ducts). The necessary acoustic treatment of the dance halls will be resolved through the materialization of the suspended ceiling and the surfaces of some of the walls. Some walls in the halls must remain untreated to allow for the achievement of the necessary requirements, such as the installation of mirrors. An important technical condition that is necessary to ensure for rooms intended for daily use of dance halls, with the required spatial capacity, is the adequate acoustic conditions and sound insulation in relation to other spaces of the building, as well as to each other, one room in relation to another. This is especially true for halls intended for dance rehearsals (ballet halls), where the specific features of dance, which includes dynamic and intense kicks to the floor, are especially prominent, so this should be kept in mind when positioning the hall in the vertical plan. Also, while designing the space in this block, it is necessary to provide the possibility for the implementation of a system of adequate ventilation and thermal comfort. Quality daylighting is affirmative, but for these spaces, it is not a crucial criteria. The rooms in the block for performers must have direct access from the dressing rooms, Within this block, smaller spaces for storage of equipment and props should be provided.

Note Practice rooms for instrumental teaching While organizing the space in the building and determining the area of practice rooms for instrumental teaching, it should be taken into account that the requirements for sound insulation between such rooms require wall thicknesses of 30 cm. In the rooms that are classified as noisy (instrumental practice rooms, jazz halls), it is necessary to provide a lobby at the entrance with two doors, whereas the smaller groups of practice rooms by groups should have a common access corridor separated by doors leading to other spaces. The lobbies can be used for storing various items. It is desirable, in the smallest practice rooms, that at least one wall deviates from the parallelism (sloping surface) in order to minimize its own resonances characteristic of small spaces. It would be good if the practice rooms for jazz were next to the jazz teaching halls. This also applies to the height of the rooms, as both jazz classrooms and practice rooms require a lower ceiling compared to classic instruments. Other practice rooms should not be grouped by departments, but by the type of practice room (empty, with an upright piano, with a piano, etc.). They can be divided into a couple of groups, but it is not good to scatter them too much around the building - so that students can easily reach an unoccupied room. The introduction of an electronic time booking system in practice rooms would certainly help. The table shows the equipment planned for certain spaces in order to explain the manner of use and the processes taking place there. This description should be used by the participants in the competition to perform a spatial check during work and it is not necessary to draw the disposition of the said equipment in the design |

Concert hall 400 (600) seats
|
||||
Symphony orchestra concert hall with 400-600 seats in the audience. The area of the stage should be about 290 m2, the minimum dimensions of the stage are 16 meters wide, 18 meters deep - so that it can fit a large symphony orchestra Hall height: 15 m The number of seats in the audience - depends on the acoustics - so that the space is such as to enable quality work of the symphony orchestra. As for the number of seats - it can be flexible in the sense that there can be a smaller number of seats (not less than 400), but please think about post-covid times and that there is a greater distance between the seats. It is also acceptable that additional chairs can be placed on the stage or behind the orchestra (so that they look directly at the conductor). It should also be envisaged that the work in the hall will be possible with and without the audience (again, from the point of view of the acoustics). It is crucial that the hall is very usable, and not too expensive to maintain (which means without complicated hydraulic mechanisms and alike). A room for sound control should be designed next to the hall (30 m2). It is also necessary to envisage the space from which the performers will appear on the stage (many of which will have instruments in their hands, etc.) - which is related to the proposal of accompanying spaces for the halls. It is necessary to provide a system of hanging microphones - as a permanent setting that should be connected to the recording and sound system (which will be positioned in the control room) The form of the symphony orchestra's concert hall should be parallelepiped ("Shoe box") with the required area and volume, with permitted minor deviations that do not jeopardize its acoustic quality. The recommended size of the hall (area and height) is a net and one is calculated up to the interior wall and ceiling coverings. The volume of the hall should be adjusted according to the determined area and form of the auditorium so that the ratio of these two sizes (volume and area of the auditorium) enables the achievement of the reverberation time value of T30 = 1.5-2.0 s. The proportions of the hall are adjusted to the acoustics requirements for a given number of audience members, so that the adequate values of other acoustic parameters can be achieved therein. The interior coverings should have an intensive relief, which is necessary for achieving an adequate sound image aesthetics, in all the aspects according to the requirements for symphony music concert halls. The auditorium of the hall should be divided into a ground floor, a small balcony and low galleries along the perimeter. It is contraindicated to create the slope of the auditorium to the extent that is applied in theatres as thus the allocated volume of space is reduced. In that sense, the geometry of the auditorium should enable the view of the stage to the extent appropriate for concert events (the hall is not intended for theatrical purposes, and full visibility of the stage floor from the listener's position is not necessary in music halls). The galleries should, if possible, provide standing room. The auditorium should also provide for potential places to accommodate TV cameras without compromising the view from the seats. These places should be determined in accordance with the requirements for recording such events. The required criteria of ambient noise in the concert hall is NR15, which requires for the organization of the space around the hall to enable the distribution of air in the manner that is common in concert halls. This means that the following should be planned: - below the hall, there should be a plenum for adding air through diffusors in the floor under the seats, - above the interior hall ceiling there should be a space for plenum for extracting air. Next to the hall, at a suitable location, a technical control room should be envisaged for control of stage lighting and sound (when being used), as well as a space for video projector. These premises must have a good view of the stage. While sizing all the control rooms, it is necessary to take into account the loss of space for adequate acoustic interior processing on the walls and ceiling |

D.2 |
Hall for opera/ballet shows
|
||||
D.2 |
Opera/ballet hall Provide a wide enough stage, as well as a lobby for stage exit for a ballet ensemble and a 200-seat auditorium. Hall height: 9 m Area: around 300 m2 without a stage (+120 m2) The key feature of this hall is the stage - which should be large enough to enable classes, as well as performances (with limited scenography). Stage - dimensions: width 12 m, depth 10 m, (minimum for dance ensemble), floor should be primarily adapted to ballet (wooden vibrating floor plus ballet linoleum) - and for teaching and opera performances (which can be limited in time during an academic year) the floor can be adjusted if necessary. There should be an orchestra pit in front of the stage, of an appropriate size for the orchestra, which can be fixed (to avoid an expensive hydraulic mechanism). It is necessary to have the possibility of sounding the orchestra, with a monitor on the stage. Next to the hall, a technical control room is needed (because it is necessary to have stage lighting and appropriate sound system, as well as the possibility for the ballet/modern dance ensemble to perform without an orchestra - that is, on a tape). It is also necessary to envisage space on the side of the stage - from where the performers will appear on the stage - there are especially many performers when it comes to dancing, both classic or modern, the space should have reduced dimensions, but still sufficient to enable classes and performances. This hall should be organized according to the principles of theatre halls, which refers to the organization of the auditorium and its slope. A smaller gallery is desirable primarily because of its contribution to the diffusion of the sound field rather than for housing a portion of the auditorium. It can house technical facilities and possibly a small number of audience members. The volume of the hall should be adjusted according to the determined area and form of the auditorium so that the ratio of these two sizes (volume and area of the auditorium) enables the achievement of the reverberation time value of T30 1.2 s. Interior coverings should have a relief that is necessary for achieving an adequate sound image aesthetics, in all the aspects according to the requirements for opera halls. The orchestra pit should have adequate depth to allow some diffusion of the sound field in it. When determining the dimensions of the orchestra pit, it should be taken into consideration that all the interior areas are to have an interior covering that is approximately 10 cm thick. Next to the hall, at a suitable location, a technical control room should be envisaged for control of stage lighting and sound (when being used), as well as a space for video projector. The stage ought to be clearly visible from these premises. While sizing the control room, it is necessary to take into account the loss of space for adequate acoustic interior processing on the walls and ceiling.

Hall for chamber and solo performances
|
||||
D.3 |
Design a hall for chamber and solo concerts with an audience of 200 seats. This space makes the concert offer more efficient and flexible. Intended for solo and chamber music concerts, The small hall does not have additional spaces, but uses the auxiliary capacities of the large concert hall. Hall height: 8m Hall area: around 300 m2 The hall should have a stage that can accommodate 2 large concert pianos (Steinway, model D), or a piano quintet or any ensemble of up to 8 members. It is necessary to have an organ in a small concert hall, an acoustic organ - which is adequate for a small hall with 150-200 seats in the audience (chairs and not fixed seats). The height of the space should be such that the acoustic requirements for performing classical music are met. It is also important that the approach to the stage is such that the pianos can be easily removed from the stage using a hydraulic trolley for piano transfer (so that there is a suitable wide double-leaf door leading from the stage - without steps). A small room for sound control should be designed next to the hall. This hall will be the most used space - for classes and concerts of solo music and chamber music (with and without piano, organ, etc.) The form of the hall should be parallelepiped ("Shoe box") with the given size and height, with permitted minor modifications that would contribute to the acoustic quality. The recommended size of the hall (area and height) is net and is calculated up to the interior coverings. The required criteria of ambient noise in the hall for chamber and solo concerts is NR20. This requires for the organization of the space around the hall to enable the distribution of air in the manner that is common in concert halls. In this sense, the following should be planned: - below the hall, there should be a plenum for adding air through diffusors in the floor under the seats, - above the interior hall ceiling there should be a space for plenum for extracting air. The auditorium of the hall should have a geometry that enables the view of the stage to the extent appropriate for concert events. It is contraindicated to create the slope of the auditorium used in theatre halls as thus reduces the effective space volume is reduced (full view of the stage floor from the position of the listeners is not necessary in such halls). Next to the hall, at a suitable location, a technical control room should be envisaged for control of stage lighting and sound (when used), and so should a video projector room. The stage ought to be clearly visible from these premises. While sizing the control room, it is necessary to take into account the loss of space for adequate acoustic interior processing on the walls and ceiling. |

Jazz music hall (big band)
|
||||
D.4 |
Hall for jazz music with 200 seats Hall height: 6m Hall area: around 300 m2 It is necessary for the jazz hall - as a very specific hall, to be separated from the other three concert halls, it should be additionally soundproofed. This hall should have an elevated stage with a minimum width of 10 meters and a minimum depth of 7 meters, so that it can accommodate the Big Band orchestra (Hall at the Dom omladine in Belgrade is good for comparison) The conceptual design of this hall needs to provide space for interior coverings on the walls and ceiling. The acoustic properties of this hall will be adjusted through the materialization of these coverings in the following design phases. In this hall, the auditorium can have a slope that allows better visibility of the stage. The required criteria of ambient noise in the hall for jazz music and big band is NR25. With such a criteria, it is desirable, but not necessary, to organize the distribution of air as in other halls (with the plenum below the auditorium and the plenum above the interior ceiling of the hall.

Large sound studio
|
||||
classic music recording studio (acoustic instruments). Area: 40 m2+290 m2+5 m2 It is necessary for this to be a studio with a larger room for sound (audio) control (control room) of approximately 40 m2, where all the required studio equipment would be sufficient for teaching 10 students; besides, a small room is also required. (engine-machine room) in which all the noisy devices would be kept - computers, servers, power supply, etc.). This room must have additional cooling. In addition - the space where the musicians are - should be an acoustically treated space in which it would be possible to record the entire symphony orchestra (as well as soloists and smaller ensembles) - approximately 290 m2 (16*18) m2 with a sufficiently high ceiling. It would be good to have another two or three glass-enclosed booths separated from the orchestral spaces - but so that the conductor can be seen - for the purpose of recording sensitive instruments, that is, for the purpose of recording compositions for the soloist and the orchestra. All these spaces should be acoustically treated in such a way that it corresponds primarily to the process of recording of acoustic instruments. The positioning of the studio must be such as to enable the recording - in terms of acoustics - i.e. the silence. Considering that the plan is to open the Music Direction study programme within the basic academic studies (for the time being we have master studies), this implies teaching various courses to students of 5 different years, which will be related to the studio. In addition - this studio would be used by all students of the performing departments - The faculty could include playing for the purposes of studio recording in the curriculum (which is different from concert performance, and which is taught here only through practice outside the faculty, and the opening of this opportunity within the faculty would significantly contribute to the competitiveness of the faculty in the country and the region). What is very important is the fact that the Faculty invests great efforts in recording and preserving the music of contemporary Serbian composers - which would be significantly facilitated with the improvement of conditions and would open room for artistic and research work of teachers and associates of the Faculty of Music. The acoustic requirements for the space of a large sound studio are the following - ensuring the adequate size (area and height) and - ensuring sufficiently low ambient noise level. While determining the size of the studio, one should take into account that on all its internal surfaces there will be an acoustic treatment of approximately 15-20 cm, and on the ceiling up to 1 m in some places. The required criteria of ambient noise in a large tone studio is NR15. In order to ensure this, it is necessary for the conceptual design to include a studio space that is: - in the part of the building that is dilated from the rest of the building, - positioned on the ground floor or in the basement, - surrounded by neutral premises or land, A large sound studio should have artificial ventilation that would meet the criteria for ambient noise. In order to achieve that, it is necessary to provide space outside the dilated part of the building for a suitable air-conditioning chamber and a space for channels with a larger cross-section leading to the studios, which will enable low-speed air circulation in them. In the space surrounding the studio, spaces should be provided for such a channel distribution. |

a place from where the audience will be entering the halls, the accompanying toilets, the dressing rooms, the gift shop, possibly a coffee shop, etc .. areas and the manner of their use are proposed by the participants of the competition in accordance with the spatial concept |

Space for performers Dressing rooms and toilets with showers
|
||||
Provide individual dressing rooms, group dressing rooms and toilets with showers with an approximate area of 250 m2 and a height of 3.0 m.

D.8 |
Space for instruments
|
||||
Next to the halls, one should design an adequate service areas for the storage of props, costumes, as well as a separate storage area of adequate size for large music instruments (pianos, percussions), for stage furniture (chairs, music stands, praktikabel) and for audio equipment (microphone stands, cables, speakers). Area: in accordance with the spatial organization of the hall Space for storage of equipment and instruments. It is necessary for this space to be next to the large concert hall, which is the most demanding in that sense. It must be able to accommodate the praktikabels for the orchestra and the choir, chairs and stands for the orchestra, pianos (when they are not needed on stage), the double bass, percussions. It is also necessary to anticipate that instruments will be delivered for some concerts, - so it is important that this back space has an exit to the street to enable loading/unloading.

Note: grouping of halls and shared premises It is desirable that these three halls are grouped in some way so that certain spaces are common - and not for each hall separately. This refers to the ancillary and auxiliary spaces such as the access hall, the visitors' dressing rooms, toilets and alike. To show the designs of the halls with marked disposition of the equipment and the possible configurations of the auditorium |
|||||
E) COMMUNICATION HALL AND AUXILIARY PREMISES
The approximate planned area of the communication halls at the building level is around 2500 m2.
The floor area of the halls and auxiliary premises with the communication halls is an approximate one and the areas may be optimized depending on the mutual position of the halls and other spaces that imply the use of larger auxiliary premises.
The horizontal and vertical communications should be sized to enable the transport of the concert piano. It is necessary to plan a sufficient number of cargo and passenger lifts.
The sanitary premises in the building include the premises for the audience, group toilets for the performers and separate toilets at the soloist dressing rooms. The group sanitary premises should be sized based on the parameter: 1 toilet for every 20 visitors. There should be an equal number of male and female toilets. The total capacity of the toilets should be proportionally distributed on the floors used by visitors and performers.
Dressing rooms for the audience are located in the hall’s main access hall. Sized by applying the parameter 1 m of stand for 70 visitors. The area for visitors' clothes is 0.2 m2 per visitor,
F) TECHNICAL FACILITIES
These spaces include technical spaces of the installation systems for heating, air conditioning, energy units, security, technical communications, economic approaches, equipment storage and evacuation routes. The air conditioning system should be able to selectively turn on/off the air conditioning for certain parts of the building. If the investment allows, the heating and cooling of the internal spaces of the complex should utilize geothermal energy: in addition to large financial savings in the operation of the facility, the area of the technical spaces for heating and air conditioning will be significantly reduced.
It should be borne in mind that most of the contents of the facility will be equipped with video surveillance.
It is recommended that most of the required technical rooms be located in the underground floors.
G) GARAGE AND AUXILIARY PREMISES
The auxiliary premises include workshops, storage, garbage disposal and other facilities included in this type of facility.
It is recommended that part of the required garage space be located on the underground floors.
